Good News – My hosting people are being extremely helpful, they take regular backups and they’re going to try and restore ASAP
UPDATE: the site has been restored, but I’m keeping it in maintenance mode until I figure out what’s going on
ANOTHER UPDATE: It’s all sorted!

Impatient tigtog is impatient. Man sounded so nice and positive on the phone, but nothing yet has changed. Woes!

Hopefully they’ll fix it soon.
Apparently they are doing various hardening things to the server before restoring the files. It may take a while yet.
